The horror of HoraceMany Swedes say that we Swedes are not so good in English as we self believe. But they who say so are not so good in English themselves, konstaterar Ankan.
Should I have could that if I not had started so early? That I don’t think. Every time I learned a new Swedish word I immediately looked it up in my English wordbook that I kept mixed with my teddybears. In the dayhome I demanded to have the lunchmenu upread in English. Under the fruitwhile I teached both the other children and the dayhomemisses what every fruit was called in English. Many of them got irritated but I was onewise and got on with it in the freetimehome. And that I have done the whole time since then.
That hasn’t hurt my Swedish the least. I talk my mothermeal almost as good as I talk English. And I get myself understood in every part of the country, but Skane, Varmland and Ostergotland.
I am voicing on the Folkparty, because they are very consequent. They say that everybody must can correct Swedish to be a Swedish citizen, but they don’t think that English talking persons must can Swedish at all to be a Swedish citizen, because everybody in Sweden, soon even the seven years old, understand English, so the English talking persons doesn’t need a tolk when they go to the sickhouses and the justicesaloons and the other places which persons with foreign background frequently visit in Sweden.
Many Swedes say that we Swedes are not so good in English as we self believe. But they who say so are not so good in English themselves, which depends on that they didn’t start to learn English before they were nine or even more and then it already is too late.
All Englishmen that I meet can not hide their smiles when I talk and that is because they get so glad over how good I talk their language.
