Skulle det vara korrekt att skriva 'tales of me'? Jag skulle föredra 'tales about me', men skulle det fungera med "of" eller blir det inkorrekt?

If you google them both, you'll find that 'of' has a higher frequency than 'about' in that phrase, and that major part of the hits when you google on 'about' in fact will have 'of' - so much for artificial intelligence. 

  

Whether one or the other is more 'correct' I think is moot, they both are correct, but 'of' is used with much higher frequency.
